We are the CACFP sponsor for Franklin and eastern St. Lawrence County child
care, family child care, group family child care, and legally-exempt child care
CACFP Mission: • Ensure that nutritious and safely-prepared meals and snacks are available to the children in child care homes.
• Provide reimbursement for qualifying meals and snacks served in child care homes.
What are the benefits of CACFP? • Financial reimbursement assists in the cost of healthy meal choices. • Children are served nutritious meals and snacks. • Children develop healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime. • Parents are assured their children are eating safe, healthy meals and snacks. • Parents do not have to pack food. • Child care providers receive training and guidance about nutrition, child development and mealtime topics. • Studies show that children enrolled in CACFP have healthier diets and a strong immune system.
The New York State Department of Health Obesity Prevention Program encourages new mothers to breastfeed their infants. The Department's Child and Adult Care Food Program encourages child care centers and family day care homes to support breastfeeding families and recognizes these providers with Breastfeeding Friendly certificates. Child care center/day care home staff complete an assessment that shows they support breastfeeding families.
Why should my center or home support breastfeeding? • Breastfeeding helps my kids by providing protection from infection, SIDS and obesity. • Breastfed babies are easier to care for because they are less prone to spitting up, are sick less often, and are less likely to have constipation or diarrhea. In addition, diapers have less odor. • Breastfeeding helps my center/home financially. Meals containing breast milk are reimbursed by CACFP. • Breastfeeding helps me market my center/home. The Breastfeeding Friendly designation can be used in advertisements of my program. My center/home will be listed on the NYS DOH website as Breastfeeding Friendly.
