Developmental Screenings

We offer developmental screenings at each of the Family Resource Centers for children; infant through three years of age. Families can come to any of the centers for the free service to find out how their child is developmentally progressing with such areas as speech and motor skills.

A development screening at Family Connections will be provided by a qualified professional from one of the following organizations: Adirondack Helping Hands, North Country Kids,or  Reflections. At  Families R Us and Family Matters Early Intervention  through Franklin County Health Department will conduct screenings by appointments. Since early detection and treatment of any delays can be critical for a child's healthy development, a developmental screening is an important tool.

A developmental screening includes the following aspects
       of your child's development:

                       * social/emotional behavior
                       * motor skills and coordination
                       * cognitive abilities
                       * language and speech

You and your child will be together during the screening. Through playing and interacting with your child, and gathering information from you, the early intervention specialists will complete the screening.  This is also a great time to ask questions about your child's development, too

If there seems to be no difficulties present, then no further recommendations will be given.
However, if any difficulties were noted, the specialist may do one of the following:

                               * Recommend you to repeat the screening in six months

                               * Recommend a complete evaluation through the Early Intervention Program
                                 at the Clinton County Health Department

After a complete evaluation, it may be recommended that your child receive special services.  These services will be provided free of charge through the Early Intervention Program until your child is three years old.
